Import reviews from Taobao to your Shopify store

Editorify imports Taobao reviews into your Shopify store through its Chrome extension. Taobao is a Chinese marketplace, so its reviews are almost always written in Chinese; translate them before you import. Taobao is not part of the Free plan: reviews, photos and the product video all need Premium ($9.95/month) or a higher plan.

Translate Taobao reviews first

Imported reviews cannot be edited afterwards, so get the language right before you click import. Once the Taobao page has fully loaded, right-click it and choose Chrome's "Translate to English", then open Editorify. On the Gold plan and above you can also use the AI review translation built into the extension. The translation guide walks through both.

Import Taobao reviews

1. Subscribe to Premium or a higher plan if you are on the Free plan.

2. Install the Editorify Chrome extension.

3. Open the Taobao product page you want to import reviews from and let it load fully.

4. Click the Editorify icon in the Chrome toolbar.

5. Select the translated reviews you want to import.

6. Choose the Shopify product the reviews should go to.

7. Click the import button.

Taobao sellers often film their products, and a video can say what a machine-translated description cannot. To import it:

1. Open the Taobao product page and click the Editorify icon.

2. Mark the videos you want to import.

Choosing which reviews to keep

Taobao reviews tend to be short and sometimes mention the shop, delivery inside China or a coupon. Even after translation these read oddly to your customers, so leave them out and keep the ones that describe the product.
